Newsletter: January 2012

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, I hope you had a wonderful and restful festive season and I am wishing you a New Year filled with love and blessings.

The start of the New Year brings with it so many new possibilities and this year The Wicca Series will be starting off with the launch of its new website, www.thewiccaseries.co.za. At the moment it is quite simple and features posts written by myself but as we grow over the next few months we will include an online store as well as advertising space for esoteric product and service providers. Since this is my first website, I am learning as I go along so I ask if you can please be patient with me. The online store and advertising space is still available on the blog so feel free to pop on there to see what is available: http://ggclothing.blogspot.com/.

I will be making this newsletter a monthly occurrence and will include latest news from the Pagan community as well as any specials and news from our advertisers. If there is anything happening in your area that you would like me to include, please contact me info@thewiccaseries.co.za.

Starting off with a little Feng Shui

At the beginning of the month I decided it was time to clear my living and working space and to re-arrange the areas in my room to include Feng Shui elements so that I could strengthen and attract positive energies to the various areas in my life.

I was quite amazed out how much “lighter” I felt when I was finished and it felt as if clutter had been cleared out of my personal aura and I had space to breathe. I strongly recommend a little spiritual cleansing in your home to start the New Year with. I have included a Feng Shui diagram for you to have a look at if you wish to use this system as well, and below we have wonderful specials available for cleansing and prosperity.

For our readers

The Wicca Series blog will continue this year, with a new weekly post as I share with you experiences I have as I walk along my life’s path. In addition to this, the website will also be updated regularly but these posts will be more focused on Paganism and Wicca and I will share the recipes and spells I put together as I discover my inner “Kitchen Witch”.

An art of healing

The room was warm and filled with the scent of essential oils as the flames of the candle flickered gently and soft music played in the background.

My body felt warm as I lay still on the bed feeling the vibrations of my opening chakras. My eyes were closed but I could see clearer than if they were open.

On the 25th of December I performed my first very long distance Reiki session. As I lay in South Africa, working with healing energies, the recipient of the therapy lay in the South of France feeling the effects of the energy just as strongly, if not more so, than if she were to have been in the same room, on the same continent at the same time as I was.

After the hour long session we gave each other feedback about the experience via instant messaging. It had, without a doubt been a very successful session for both of us.

Reiki is a form of hands-on healing therapy where the practitioner clears and re-aligns the energy and chakras of his or her client. It allows for the person having the therapy to receive healing energy so that he or she can begin to heal spiritually, emotionally and physically.

With the use of symbols, visualisation and the understanding of the use of healing energies a practitioner can take Reiki from being a hands-on therapy to being able to help people who are long distances away from them.

Scientific research that began as early as the 1960’s and 1970’s has proven that not only does this type of energy exist and can be experienced by two people over long distances but that there is no time delay between sender and receiver. The sharing of the energy is as instantaneous as if you were to physically touch a person sitting next to you.

With my experience as a Reiki practitioner over the past eight years, I can honestly say that although both are beneficial, I personally prefer to perform distance Reiki to the traditional hands-on form of therapy. The sessions take just as much time and require the same amount of “work”. The difference for me is that I feel I can do more, see more and be more effective.

I was wondering why this is and I realised that when I am performing distance Reiki I am essentially “removing” a physical element and focusing a lot more on an energy level, which is where the magic happens. As a result I can create something more powerful with stronger healing intent which will ultimately be more beneficial to the person receiving the healing.

After my Reiki session on the 25th, as I slowly came out of my meditative state and began to become aware of my physical surroundings once again, I smiled. I could feel that the willingness of someone to receive the healing I was able to share made a huge difference and had opened a world of possibilities for both of us.

New Year’s Resolutions – Pish Posh!

Being the beginning of the year it is tradition for everyone to make those New Year’s resolutions, most of which won’t be kept but what does this strange tradition really mean to us?

At the beginning (or end) of every year we take the time to reflect on the past and we look at what is important to us at that very point in our lives. Whether we feel we need to lose weight, change our career or re-evaluate our existing relationships, and so on, we are looking at what we would rather have. Then we decide it is time to try and patch up our flaws, kick out the bad ‘stuff’ in our lives and try to do what is in our eyes, the right thing, and so resolutions for change are made. These will be our goals with, in general, little to no planning behind them.

These goals are seldom taken as seriously as they should be. Shrugging off a failed New Year’s resolution is nothing new and something I am sure we have all done. It has got to the point that when we make our resolutions, subconsciously we half expect to fail anyway purely because of the stigma attached to the idea.

Our resolutions simply become good intentions that never yield any fruit.

I asked myself a simple question this morning. What if this year I decide to make my resolutions more than just whimsical desires and really took them seriously? What if we all did?

We could sit down and write out what is important to us and what we want to achieve over the coming twelve months and then come up with an action plan. We could formulate a way to measure our growth and success as we follow monthly, weekly and daily plans. With dedication we could achieve our goals.

It all sounds like a lot of work though, and let’s face it, most of us are still in holiday mode and we don’t really want to think about work, in any form.

Over-planning to reach our goals makes them seem tedious and under-planning makes our goals directionless and seemingly pointless, so how do we strike the perfect balance that will keep us motivated?

There appears to be more questions than answers.

I don’t have the perfect answer that will help with planning for the year ahead all I can do is work through a process of trial and error.

Perhaps I should reward myself but how often and for achieving what exactly and what would my rewards be? In this instance I would also need a definite way to measure my progress.

When we create small steps to achieve a greater goal we tend to become wracked with guilt if we miss a small step or fail to achieve a small success. Because it is a personal goal we are so much harder on ourselves than we would normally be if it was, for example, something business related. It is at this point when so many people give up completely instead of considering a new strategy or tweaking the current one to be more practical.

Why do so many of us become despondent and give up so easily. It really appears that a part of human nature, to a degree, is that we are self-sabotaging. What I think we need to do is not to try and discover why we do this but rather find a way to move beyond it.

There is an inner drive inside of all of us to achieve our dreams and we need to find fuel for it in order to keep moving forward. We need to be able to stop the guilt of failure in its tracks.

So what am I going to do about it? I have started to tell myself something along the lines of “I am okay for not having achieved this, I will not dwell on it, I will release it and find a way to move forward towards my goals”. Finding a way to remove feelings of guilt and shame (and any other negative emotions) is just as important as and possibly more difficult than finding ways to keep ourselves motivated.

So right from the beginning, even before I begin to create my action plan, I need to know what drives me. I have been searching for pictures to visually represent what motivates me, it could be a picture of my ideal body, or my family or pets, and I am putting them somewhere where I can see them several times throughout the day. They are ideally going to be somewhere where I can sit quietly and look at them if I need to, especially if I feel that I have hit a bump in the road. I want my motivators to be stronger than any negative emotion I might experience.

When I am set up and ready, then I will start to plan and finally I will start to take action (the most important part of any plan)! Who knows, maybe by the end of this year I will have the perfect plan to achieving and maintaining any resolutions I might make for 2012.

This year when and if, you make any New Year’s Resolutions don’t make them if you are half expecting to fail. Make them completely expecting to succeed. The energy you put in is the energy you will get out.

Good luck and Happy New Year!
