OLD AND NEW

Book Review for Old Gods New Druids

-        By Stephanie W.

“Old Gods New Druids” by Robin Herne, an author who has also written for Pagan magazines such as Pagan Dawn, is a poet and appeared in television documentaries and is a regular broadcaster for BBC Radio Suffolk.

This book gives us an in depth look at both the history and culture of ancient Druids and Celtic Gods, fully submerging you into their nature based paths and ideologies. It also delves into a bit of the Pagan religion, briefly going over Pagan practices and beliefs, and fits nicely into the main theme of this book.

I would have to say my most favourite things about this book is that I was not spoken to in a condescending “Better than thou” context, as many historic books do. All the information provided was written in a nice easy flow, making it extremely easy to follow on, and with more in depth information of explaining terms and certain points in history, I came out reading this book with a much better understanding of Druids and Celtic Gods.

If I were to be devil’s advocate and admit something I was not very fond of, I felt in certain chapters, there was too much information offered in such a small space. That being said, I would recommend this to be read when you can find dedicated time to read with very little to none distractions. It's almost like a television show that you need to pay attention to in order to really benefit from what is being presented to you.

My overall rating for this book is 4.5 stars. It was a great, informative and captivating read that I would recommend to not just those who specialise in Druid/Celtic history, but any who would like to increase their general knowledge for leisure purposes.
