I hear and recognise the well known call as they come around every year, the men on their bicycles, with giant sacks of corn strapped to the front handlebars. They ride up and down the streets, calling out to the homes they pass by “MIELIES!”, and I know the harvest season is beginning.

We will be celebrating the first of the harvest seasons, Lughnasadh here in the Southern Hemisphere this week, 31^st January to 2^nd February (I personally celebrate on the 2^nd February every year). The Sun God is fading, and the Mother Goddess is growing in strength as we begin to harvest the bounty that has grown over the summer months. Celebrating, sharing and showing gratitude for the gifts we receive from the earth.

I would like to wish a blessed Lughnasadh to all those who celebrate in the Southern Hemisphere, and a blessed Imbolc to all who celebrate in the Northern Hemisphere.

January 2013 has come and gone, and after a particularly difficult December and January, I found myself focusing a lot on healing, and really working on launching my Reiki practice.

As I began to focus on healing and moving forward, I began to notice that around me, a lot of people seemed to focusing in the same direction. Whether or not people had experienced a tragic or difficult time, there seems to be a general focus on healing and growth of body, mind, emotion and spirit.

In order to help those who are interested in healing and growing, I have decided to focus my specials for February 2013 on products and specials to assist in the process. ART FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

“Against Prejudice and Violence”

The Witch-hunt is a centuries old tool of prejudice against society, in particular women. It is a form of genocide that is bound neither by ethnicity nor time and which continues to demand its victims across the world.

Witchcraft accusations, hangings, stoning episodes, burnings, beatings, hackings, banishing and forced relocations are common types of brutality and violence women in particular, are still subjected to in rural communities of South Africa. All too often, with epidemic frequency as a matter of fact, the disempowered (old women, children and men) are subjected to false accusations, brutal and abusive treatment at the hands of rural courts, superstitious and angry mobs who wish to purge their community of the “evil” amongst them.

Violence against women is at “crisis levels” throughout the various regions of South Africa. SAPRA has run a yearly 30 days Advocacy Campaign against Witch Hunts since 2008 and this year have undertaken to coordinate an exhibition to highlight the problem and thereby make people from all backgrounds and walks of life aware of the negative impact of violence on elderly, often sickly women and children in particular.

“The Advocacy” is a collaboration of several South African Artists, united against the brutality of witch-hunts, a visual bid and appeal to the public, as well as Government, to engage in a drive for education, programmes geared towards addressing the culture of “scapegoating”, halting the abuse and persecutions, as well as working towards the upholding and strengthening of a culture nurture in the lap of Human Rights and Gender Equality as well as creating and building the support for victims and survivors of this form of social abuse.

SUBMISSIONS & DEADLINES

Deadline for submission of Artworks: 20 February (inbox me or email me at info@pagancouncil.co.za for delivery details)

Every artwork must be accompanied with a title and a brief explanation of the piece and how it relates to the Advocacy Against Witch Hunts.

Artworks will be on sale during the exhibition, so they need to be priced reasonably. 20% of moneys will go towards the Gallery and 30% towards SAPRA’s Advocacy Campaign. If I sell any of my works, I will donate the money made towards next Year’s Advocacy.

The Gallery is still looking for other local artists, so the list of artists on show is bound to grow.

Damon Leff will contact the SAHRC, the Department of Justice, to invite some dignitaries to the exhibition. I will invite those involved in the Interfaith Debates.

A piece on the exhibition will appear in the Get It Magazine, during the month of February and we have plans of advertising the event on the local radio stations, hopefully Radio 702 as well and running an article in papers which have in the past shown support for the Advocacy Campaign.

Healing for abundance

Your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being are all intertwined with the abundance you may or may not be attracting to you. It is vitally important to understand that all four of these areas are equally important when it comes to living your best life.

If you are not drawing the abundance you wish to attract into your life currently, ask yourself these four important questions.

1. Are you allowing a sense of lack to physically affect your body and environment? For example, do you allow stress to consume you and make you physically ill?
2. Have you mentally prepared yourself to accept abundance or are you mentally expecting lack and disappointment?
3. Do you feel that you deserve your abundance, or do you feel that you don’t deserve the things you wish to have in your life?
4. Are you spiritually accepting and believing that you deserve good in your life?

These four areas of self, your physical self, mental self, emotional self and spiritual self, need to be looked after and “tuned into” what it is you wish to bring more of into your life in order to create a full life of abundance. You could be wishing to attract more love, more money, spiritual fulfillment, etc.

If you feel that you have been trying to balance all the elements of self, yet for some reason your are not attracting into your life what it is you are searching for, you can seek out healing to help “unblock” what it is that may be holding you back.

Working with a natural healer, for example a massage therapist, Reiki therapist, acupuncturists, Angel practitioners, and even psychologists (just to name a few) can help you to shed light on what it is that may be troubling you.

As a Reiki therapist I am able to help my patients to find the blockages they have within the levels of their aura, their chakras and physical body. I then look at what emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental states these are associated with, and how “old” the blockage is, in other words I can assist in narrowing down approximately what age my client was when the blockage began to build. This will then give my client a good base to work on in order to begin to clear away the past and look to a future of complete fulfillment.

Sometimes it may take just a single session, sometimes several but as soon as the problem is identified and accepted you will be able to move forward.

Even if you do not feel physically ill, but you aren’t living your best life and you’re not sure why, then consider approaching a natural therapist for help. You may even end up uncovering something you didn’t even realise was a problem to begin with, but once you let it go, a world of possibility can open up for you.

You can be the person you dream of being and you can live the life you wish for. You simply need to be willing to put in the work in order to achieve the results.

Reiki and the Cycle of Life

Reiki is best when used as an assisting therapy.

What this means is:

• It is used alongside other forms of therapy, including medical treatments, to help your body to heal faster.
• It is used to help someone work through something that has happened or is happening in their lives. This doesn’t have to be a medical or physical trauma, but it can also be an emotional or spiritual area of their lives.

This is also means that Reiki Therapy can be used to assist us as we deal with every day events that occur during the cycle of life and death. This is what I wish to discuss here.

During pregnancy, Reiki can be used to help alleviate some of the symptoms and discomfort the mother feels while carrying her child. Reiki can also be sent to the foetus to encourage strong natural growth inside the womb.

During child birth and labour there is a lot of increased energy around the baby and the mother. This comes from the actual birthing process as well as the increase of people around both the mother and child. This includes family, friends and medical professionals. This increase in energy can actually help make the birthing process quicker and easier which is a very good thing. However afterwards there are still a lot of residual high frequency energies. Reiki helps to calm and realign these energies around the new mother and baby. It also helps their bodies to heal faster from the physical trauma they had endured.

Reiki can be used to help both the parents and the child over the next couple of months and years to help assist moving through a new development that happens in their lives.

This includes helping with any separation anxiety, for example when a new mother has to leave her young baby for the first time to return back to work, or on a first day at school.

The teenage years will then follow childhood. This is where Reiki Therapy can become very beneficial. It helps to assist children through the hormone changes and imbalances that will occur and will also help them to personally understand where they are in their lives and what they are going through. It can also help assist in coping with learning difficulties, for example ADD, or lack of focus and concentration in school work, and any general stresses the teenager may be going through.

Once having reached adulthood, Reiki Therapy can help during any big changes that may occur. For example, working through studies and trying to decide what one wishes to do with their lives, any big changes in jobs, relationships and family lives. Reiki assists with mental and physical stress and fatigue.

Reiki on a regular basis will balance your energies and help you work though day to day stresses, as well as bigger life stresses. It will help you to clear your mind and body, and move forward to where you feel you need to be.

Reiki Therapy can play a very important role in someone’s life where death is involved.

Unlike birth, during death there seems to be a general need for people to be calm and quiet around a person who is dying, but just like birth, quite often a person requires a lot of energy in order to assist in the process of passing on.

Reiki therapy helps to aid a dying person, or animal, with any pain and discomfort they are experiencing, especially with a long term disease, and it allows them to draw on enough energy so that when they are ready they are able to pass over.

For those who are left behind, Reiki Therapy can help with the grieving process. It assists in dealing with all the stages one goes through during grieving (five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Sorrow, Acceptance), and allows one to find acceptance in death, and peace within themselves.
