Beltane 2016

Light the Bale fires, Summer has come! And that's exactly what I plan on doing with the wife tonight, setting up a fire in our fire pit (which she dug and built by hand just for me), and giving our offerings to the God and Goddess.

As solitary practitioners, and busy business woman, we seldom have time to plan and host big celebrations these days. This however doesn't stop us from still taking time out to honor special days and Sabbats. Tonight we will burn offerings and prayers to the Mother Goddess and the Great Horned God for the year to come, as well as offer gratitude for the blessings we have already received in our lives.

Beltane is the biggest of our holy holidays, and with the world around us celebrating Halloween, indirectly they are sharing and celebrating this very Pagan holiday with us. 

I would also like to wish our friends up in the Northern Hemisphere, a very blessed Samhain.

Tonight is also a New Moon. We are surrounded by powerful energies right now that will really be auspicious for any new projects you may be considering starting. So maybe today, take some time to think about your next new project that you will dedicate yourself to starting from tomorrow. Cast spells for new beginnings, and offer gratitude for the blessings you wish to receive in the coming days and months.

I personally have a few new projects I'm planning as I follow the ebb and flow of time. This is such a good time for change, harness the energy while it's available to you, throw away any excuses you may have and begin on a brand new path!

A male nursery web spider that came by for a visit on Sunday morning, his female counterpart popped around on Friday evening but she was a bit too stressed so taking pictures were difficult, he however was very tame and seemed to enjoy the attention just a little

On a side note, we were visited this weekend by two gorgeous, large spiders. I always see these things as a blessing, the Spider Goddess is my matron deity. She is a Goddess of creativity and the arts, these visiting spiders were for me a sign of blessings from her, especially for the creative projects I have just recently begun. The energies of change and creation are definitely in the air!

I wish blessings to everyone, may the year to come be filled with abundance and prosperity, but most importantly, may you honor your true self and your true path in all ways.

My Pagan Handfasting

My apologies for being so quiet last week, I was away getting married to the love of my life.

There have been two moments in my life when I have been exceptionally proud of myself for being completely selfish. It sounds terrible, I know, but I have come to realize that in life there are certain moments where I quite literally need to do what I want despite the people around me.

The first was three years ago, due to health reasons I had a hysterectomy, an easy decision for me as I have never wanted children. Though there was a moment where I let the Nay Sayers get into my head because I wasn't doing what they wanted me to do with my body. After a chat with a very good friend who helped me to realign with my true self, I decided to block them all out and go straight for the surgery I wanted, despite the wishes of others.

When the doctor woke me up from surgery, despite the extreme pain from having my core muscles torn apart, I had a moment I will never forget. In that moment I was so overcome with joy and happiness, it was the most amazing feeling... I had done something BIG for myself! For the first time in my life I had done something that I truly wanted, and not what was expected of me,

On the 15th October 2016, I was overcome by the very same emotion, I moment so filled with love and joy and happiness that I could feel it just wanting to explode from me. My wife and I got married in a full Pagan Handfasting ceremony on the beach.

Despite having opposition from certain Nay Sayers in my life, we still did what we wanted, we did what makes US truly happy. For the longest time we tried to plan things to accommodate the people around us. It resulted in a lot of changes of wedding dates, venues, etc. We got lost trying to consider and please everyone around us... but eventually we decided to say "Fuck it" and did what we wanted... and as a result I experienced truly what was the HAPPIEST moment of my life.

I would like to thank Christa Martin of White Leopard Weddings for being an amazing RMO. I have to say that for two years we truly struggled with Pagan RMOs (Registered Marriage Officers) here in South Africa, so much so that it made my heart sore at the level of disorganization. Christa was the first RMO we met with true integrity, and who is completely down to earth, and I would absolutely recommend her services time and time again... the fact that she has medals for kick ass medieval combat skills and a husband who makes swords, just makes her even cooler.






She is based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and if this means you decide, like us, to get married out of your normal province and up in the Midlands or Thousand Hill mountains or  on a beach, I promise you, her services are well worth it!

If you do decide to consider the Midlands as a Pagan Handfasting venue, then may I suggest Millgate Cottage as a place for really affordable accommodation. And pop into their pub The Crafty Mole for a pint of local craft beers, served by Chris Moon, and perhaps a walk around their little labyrinth too.




Most importantly of all though, I would like to say thank you to my most amazing wife... you are the biggest gift the Goddess has ever blessed me with. I will love you for all eternity, through the ebb and flow of the cycles of life death and rebirth. You are my heart, now and always!

The Hermit

If you need time alone to rest and recover, don't be afraid to take it. Even if it's just a short walk, our quiet meditation to clear your head. Take some time for yoga, or to just spend time with yourself away from the daily chaos.

If you are struggling to decide on doing the "right thing" in a situation, this card is telling you that perhaps the right thing is doing what's right for you. Stop worrying about pleasing or upsetting others, be gentle with yourself, this is a time to do what YOU need.

Weaving Magick

We are so excited, our Handfasting is just under two weeks away, and everything is coming together and we are completing the finishing touches.

On Saturday, over the New Moon, we wove our Handfasting cord together. Such a Magickal moment, the two of us weaving away, thinking about and talking about how much we love each other and our excitement for the special day and our future together. Weaving Magick can really be fun and powerful as so much time is used on imbuing the item being woven. It is created with care and mindfulness. All of this inspired me to share a bit of Weaving Magick in this week's blog.

I decided to create a prosperity talisman.

Firstly I carefully picked out 3 ribbons of roughly 50 cm / 20" in length. I chose green for luck and prosperity. Blue to represent my prosperity flowing like water, effortlessly to me, and finally a rich golden brown to remind me that riches are of this earth, and I should always remember the importance of abundance in all areas of my life.

I then chose a tiger's eye pendant. I especially chose tiger's eye as it represents success in business, and being an entrepreneur I have been quite drawn to this stone. Tiger's eye also helps, not only in the creation of wealth, but it also helps the wearer to hold onto and grow that wealth. I then chose two bells, a green and gold one to represent wealth. I especially chose bells because the sound is good for clearing away any negative energies and thoughts. As I wear or carry the talisman with me, any time I feel myself worrying about money or doubting my prosperity, ringing these bells will help to clear that negativity from me.

If you wish to use something other than bells, may I suggest the gemstones labradorite or green Jade. Labradorite helps to clear any negative thoughts or emotions you may have towards money. In fact I have a labradorite necklace I like to wear when going on a big shopping trip, to help me feel better about spending money, while I learn to welcome the flow of more of it into my life.

Jade is great for absorbing and removing any negative energy around money. I actually have a jade gemstone that I keep in my wallet, not just to remove any negativity I have with regards to giving and receiving money, but also to absorb traces of any negative energy that may have been left by previous handlers of the coins and notes in my wallet.

First step I knotted the three ribbons together at one end and then I braided the three ribbons together. All the time while doing this, I visualized my wealth coming to me. When I reached the end, I knotted the ends together.

I then looped the ribbons around, and created sliding knots on both ends. This is so I could wear it as an adjustable bracelet if I so wished to do so.

To finish, I sewed the pendant and bells onto the knots, being careful not to affect their ability to slide. While I was sewing them on, I repeatedly expressed gratitude to the God and Goddess for my prosperity. Being thankful for what you have, before you have it, is a powerful way of welcoming it into your life.

Once the talisman is complete, you can perform a basic ritual blessing to imbue and empower it even more with positive prosperity energies.

And there you have it, a really easy prosperity talisman that you can wear or carry with you wherever you go.
