Equinox Blessings

The Autumn Equinox is upon us here in the Southern Hemisphere. After a long hot summer and drought we have been blessed with an abundance of rain.

 

We are excited about our first harvest season in our new home, despite having fought against tough elements, such as unusually large hail, a hot, long dry drought, an infestation of Shaffer beetles and lastly certain vermin feasting in our veggie garden, we find ourselves with a very small harvest to be picking indeed. However we are grateful to the Goddess for what we do have. There are fewer things more rewarding than being able to pick your own home grown produce and being able to create meals for your family from that, or at the very least a damn good herbal tea!

 

I wish you and yours an abundant and prosperous harvest season. For our friends in the North, I hope your Spring equinox is filled with blessings for the year to come.

What a perfect card to draw for the season, the card represents the Goddess Demeter. Here in the Southern hemisphere Demeter is going into mourning as she releases Persephone to Hades in the underworld for the winter months (and in the north she is welcoming her back).

The Earth Mother is watching over us and blessing us with her abundance during the harvest season. It is a time of patience and nurturing, not just from the Goddess but these are traits we need to share with each other too. Show more understanding with each other during tough times, and work on watching your temper, try not to be too fast to anger before looking at all aspects of a situation.

A little guidance

As a business woman, wife and mother, to eight gorgeous fur-kids, I have quite a busy daily schedule. I am often faced with decisions that I need to make in my business life that will affect my personal life.

As much as I would love to say that I have it all and can do it all (which I do) sometimes I do require a little help and guidance. To help me work through tough times or in making decisions I usually do the following:

• Firstly I turn to writing in my journal, writing about a situation can help me to understand it better. Knowing where I’m coming from and where I want to go to, helps me to make better decisions in the present.
• Secondly I meditate. Having an incredibly busy mind can become overwhelming, taking a few minutes a day to clear it does wonders in helping to understand things better, and often with a clearer view which will help me to move forward.
•  Thirdly, I use a tarot or oracle deck. I don’t make my decisions according to my decks, though I consult them for advice. Sometimes they really just help to give me a different point of view that I may not have considered before.

I don’t let my challenges get me down, if anything I use them to grow. I have faced failures and have learned (and am still learning) to use them as stepping stones to guide me forward rather than quitting and allowing them to rule over my life. I hope that by using these three tools, that you too can find some guidance towards your success in life.

All things new

We are having our Handfasting this coming October so we have been preparing a whole new ritual area in our yard. It’s a lot of time consuming work, but it really is a labor of love, and we promise to keep you updated with pictures as it develops into a magical space.

 .

When we started to plan our wedding last year, we asked for a few copies of current Handfasting ceremonies that are being used. I was really shocked at what I received. Most of the rituals were simply just non-rituals, and were more for people with atheist or non spiritual beliefs who really didn’t want the choice of getting married in a church or a legal court. Not a single one really had any traditional practices included what so ever, they were very short, just a few minutes set aside to say the “I do’s” and with no celebration of Wiccan or Pagan beliefs incorporated, not even the Great Rite.

After getting over the shock of what is accepted as a legal Handfasting ceremony, I decided it would be best if I wrote my own ceremony, making sure to bring in the old traditions. I will definitely be keeping you updated on this too.
